She wasn’t flashy.
She didn’t need much.
But every summer, she came alive.
The lake was her place.
Early mornings on the dock with a mug of coffee. Afternoons floating, drifting, not saying much. Evenings with a paperback in one hand and bare feet brushing the wood planks.
It wasn’t just a cabin getaway—it was her rhythm, her rest, her reset.
She loved it in a way that people who don’t have a “place” might not fully understand.
And if you asked her, she’d have said, half-serious and half-smiling,
“When I go, just scatter me here.”
So they did.
When she passed, her family knew right away what to do.
They weren’t interested in the formality of funeral homes or placing her in a columbarium.
They wanted to honour her wish. Quietly. Naturally. Authentically.
That’s where we came in.
At Forever Places, we help families bring their loved ones back to the places that mattered. And for some, that place is the lake—the one they never wanted to leave.
We offer non-witnessed ash scattering services in the landscapes that hold meaning. Whether it’s a dock in cottage country, a hidden cove, or a familiar shoreline, we carry their ashes to a location you choose and scatter them with care.
A simple way to honour a life.
You don’t have to plan the trip.
You don’t need to charter a boat.
You don’t even need to leave home.
Here’s how it works:
After you place your order, we send you a prepaid, pre-addressed shipping kit that meets Canada Post’s requirements for mailing ashes.
It includes secure packaging, clear instructions, and a small moment of pause—a chance to take that first step, gently.
Once we receive your loved one’s ashes, we travel to the lake you selected.
We scatter them from the dock or gently release them from a boat using a biodegradable urn. No fanfare. No audience. Just quiet water, soft ripples, and sky.
After the scattering, we send you a digital photo of the site, GPS coordinates, and an optional keepsake: a small bottle of lake water collected during the ceremony. Something to keep close, something to remember.
It’s not about tradition. It’s about truth.
She didn’t want a granite plaque.
She didn’t want a marble bench.
She wanted to be part of the place she loved most—the light bouncing off the water, the hum of loons in the distance, the way the world slows down at the lake.
And that’s exactly where she rests.
That dock still gets sunlight every morning.
The water still moves with the wind.
And in a way that’s impossible to explain—but easy to feel—she’s still there.
These places matter.
Whether it’s your mom’s favourite fishing spot, your dad’s canoe route, or the lake where you made a thousand summer memories together—there’s something powerful about returning someone to the land and water that shaped them.
We believe goodbyes don’t have to be loud to be meaningful.
They just have to be true to the person you're remembering.
And if that means a quiet dock and the sound of waves?
We’ll make sure they get there.
